How To Improve Efficiency Of A Modular Home
Heating and cooling a modular or manufactured home can be a challenge. Many times these homes come from the factory with leaky ductwork, inadequate insulation, and an inefficient HVAC system. However, listed below are some things you can do to make your modular or manufactured home more energy efficient:
- Make sure your house is level. If the set-up crew fails to level the home, you make experience severe door and window leaks. Multi-section homes will not have airtight connections where the interior walls and rooftop meet. Additional leveling may be required after the home has had time to settle.
- If you live in a doublewide or multi-section home, make sure the crossover ducts between each section have airtight seals. It is not unusual to find cross-over ducts that have been permanently sealed. There's a good chance you are losing much of your heated and cooled air to the outdoors.
- Inspect the underbelly of your home for rips and tears to insulation and patch/fix accordingly.
- If you have an electric furnance, consider replacing it with a high-effiency heat pump.
