About Bright Ideas

In the 2024/25 school year, Jones-Onslow will celebrate 30 years of partnering with local educators and school systems by kicking off its Bright Ideas Grant Program. Bright Ideas grants are designed to help provide teachers with specific opportunities to enhance their classroom educational experiences.

Each year Jones-Onslow provides grant applications to teachers and principals, grades K-12, in the 53 public schools in Jones and Onslow counties, as well as the Topsail area of Pender County.

The grants help students learn through innovative scholastic projects that are not covered by regular school funds. Educators may apply for individual grants up to $500 or in teams for grants up to $2,000.

Since the start of the program, JOEMC has awarded 2,448 grants, totaling close to $1.675 million, to some 6,855 educators. These funds have had a direct impact on the education of close to 621,000 students in our community.

Grants are awarded based on their effectiveness through innovative and creative teaching methods, ongoing benefits and the possibility of replication in other settings, and the direct involvement of as many students as possible without compromising the instructional value.
