April is Lineworker Appreciation Month

April is Lineworker Appreciation Month, a time to recognize and thank the men and women who work every day to keep the lights on for our members. At Jones-Onslow EMC, our lineworkers play a critical role in powering the communities we serve. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but the impact is felt in every home, business, school, and farm across our service area.

Working in Challenging Conditions

Linework is one of the most demanding and dangerous professions in the utility industry. Our lineworkers work around high-voltage electricity, climb poles, operate heavy equipment, and respond in all types of weather conditions—from summer heat to coastal storms. Whether it’s routine maintenance or restoring power after an outage, safety is always their top priority.

Skilled, Highly Trained Professionals

Becoming a lineworker requires extensive training and hands-on experience. Through apprenticeships, certifications, and ongoing education, our crews continually build the knowledge and skills needed to safely maintain and restore the electric system that powers our communities. Their training prepares them to respond quickly and effectively when members need them most.

Strength, Resilience, and Dedication

The work of a lineworker is physically demanding. Climbing poles, lifting equipment, and working long hours in difficult terrain require strength, endurance, and determination. But beyond the physical demands, it takes dedication and pride in serving others.

Serving When It Matters Most

Lineworkers are often called to work long hours during storms and emergencies, sometimes missing holidays, family events, and time at home. When outages occur, they are the first to respond—working day and night to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.

Thanking the People Who Power Our Community

At Jones-Onslow EMC, we are proud of the hardworking lineworkers who help keep our system reliable and our members connected. Their commitment to safety, service, and community is what keeps the power flowing every day.

This month, we encourage our members to join us in recognizing these dedicated professionals.

Thank a lineworker for the work they do to power our community.
