This July, our country celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone—known as the Semiquincentennial— is a time to reflect on how far our nation has come and the progress that continues to shape our daily lives. When America was founded, life looked very different. Homes were lit by candles, communication took days or weeks, and electricity did not yet exist.

From the beginning of rural electrification to today’s modern grid, electric cooperatives have worked to bring reliable power to the communities we serve—no matter how rural or remote.
