Friday Night Lights

On warm August Friday nights in every little town in Eastern North Carolina, high school football teams take to the field, hundreds of fans fill the stands, and community is built under the bright glow of stadium lights. Behind every touchdown, halftime show, and hot dog sold is something we often take for granted: reliable electricity.

While the linemen on the football field work to lead the team to victory, the linemen on the Jones-Onslow EMC team work to keep the lights on and power life’s most powerful moments. The lights that illuminate the field, the P.A. systems that rile up the crowd, the popcorn machines that work overtime to keep up with demand, and the scoreboards we all keep a close eye on are all made possible by electricity.

The excitement of Friday night lights only lasts a few hours, but the work to keep them on happens around the clock. Long before the fans file into the stadium and the first snap takes place, JOEMC crews have done the work to maintain power lines, trim vegetation, and service the electric system that serves our community. Just as a football team spends months preparing for a successful season, your co-op works every day to ensure our members continue to have the safe and reliable electricity that powers their homes, businesses, farms, and schools.

Friday night football is more than just a game. It is a source of hometown pride, an occasion that builds lasting family memories, and a tradition that brings neighbors together. JOEMC is more than just a power company. We are your friends, family, neighbors, and maybe even one of the coaches leading the way.

As another football season kicks off, we cheer on the players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, spectators, and all others who make Friday nights in Eastern North Carolina so special. We are honored to power the lights that shine a spotlight on the moments that matter most.
