A Message from the CEO: Summer Energy Savings: Programs and Tips

Summer in eastern North Carolina can be unforgiving, and I know that rising temperatures bring rising energy bills—something that weighs on many of our members’ minds. As your local not-for-profit electricity provider, Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation exists to serve you, and that means helping you stay comfortable this summer while keeping your energy costs as manageable as possible.

With that in mind, I want to make sure every member knows about the programs and resources we have available specifically designed to help you through the warmer months ahead.

Budget Billing

If you find it difficult to plan around seasonal bill fluctuations, our budget billing program may be the right fit for you. We calculate your monthly bill by averaging your previous 12 months of usage, giving you a predictable, consistent payment each month regardless of the weather outside. This is especially helpful for members on a fixed income or those whose energy needs vary significantly throughout the year. Reach out to us to get enrolled.

Free Home Energy Audit

One of the best investments you can make this summer costs you nothing. Our energy advisors are available to visit your home, identify where energy is being wasted, and offer personalized recommendations to improve efficiency and lower your bills. If you’d prefer to start on your own, our quick do-it-yourself online energy audit is available to any member with at least 10 months of billing history. Visit our EnergyWise page at joemc.com to get started.

Rebate Program

When you make smart upgrades to reduce your home’s energy use—whether that’s a new energy-efficient appliance, improved heating and cooling equipment, or a home EV charging unit—we want to reward that decision. Our rebate program offers bill credits for qualifying purchases and improvements. Visit the rebates section of our EnergyWise page at joemc.com to see what’s available and how to apply.

Small Steps, Real Savings

Some of the most effective energy-saving habits don’t cost a thing. Setting your thermostat a few degrees higher and using ceiling fans to stay comfortable can make a meaningful difference—just remember to turn fans off when you leave the room since they cool people, not spaces. On warm evenings, firing up the outdoor grill instead of the oven keeps heat out of your kitchen and your cooling system from working overtime. And don’t overlook your air filter—a clean filter helps your system run efficiently and can extend its life.

For more personalized energy-saving advice, I encourage you to visit joemc.com or reach out to our team directly. We’re here for you—and together, we’ll make this summer a little more manageable.
