Skip to contentAt Jones-Onslow EMC, we are dedicated to enriching the communities we serve through a variety of programs. Our initiatives include the Co-op Connections program, which offers discounts on products and services; the No Barriers Warrior Expedition, providing transformative experiences for disabled veterans; and the Powerline Technician Scholarship, supporting students pursuing careers in the energy sector. Additionally, we invest in the next generation through youth-focused opportunities such as academic scholarships, Touchstone Energy Sports Camp scholarships, the Youth Tour, and engaging school presentations. These programs reflect our commitment to fostering community growth and supporting the aspirations of our youth.
Every generation leaves behind a legacy, footprints that shape the future. The Electric Cooperative Youth Touris your chance to do the same. It’s more than a trip to Washington, D.C.—it’s an opportunity to step into history, discover your voice and begin writing the story only you can tell.
The best part? It’s FREE for delegates! All transportation, meals and program costs are covered by Jones-Onslow EMC. The program is coordinated and facilitated by North Carolina Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).
Delegates selected from our services area and will join more than 1,800 students from across the country in Washington, D.C., June 14 -20. They’ll explore historic monuments and world-class museums, meet with elected officials and, most importantly, develop leadership skills, build their resumes and form lasting connections with other young leaders from across America.
It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But don’t take our word for it! Check out some quotes from recent alumni below!
“The trip was one of a lifetime, I learned so much and made friends that will last a lifetime.” Giana Caldweller
Jones-Onslow EMC is pleased to offer Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships to basketball camps on university campuses this summer. Young women can apply for a scholarship to attend the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at N.C. State University in Raleigh. Young men can apply for a scholarship to attend the Carolina Basketball School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Two students from JOEMC’s service territory will be selected for the scholarships, which cover all expenses at the overnight camps. Campers will stay in dorms and experience life on a college campus and also practice drills with NCAA coaches and athletes. Beyond the physical benefits of playing sports, campers will gain skills that will develop their character and help them excel on and off the court, like working as a team and connecting with new friends.
Students who will be in sixth or seventh grade during the 2025-2026 school year are eligible to apply. All applicants must have a parent or guardian’s signature, and scholarship winners are responsible for their own transportation to and from camp.
The deadline to apply is March 31.
Each year, Jones-Onslow awards scholarships to twenty-four graduating high school seniors and four community college students who have demonstrated excellence in their academic pursuits and community involvement.
These scholarships support students as they continue their educational journey beyond high school. Recipients who attended high school in Onslow County are selected in partnership with the school system and its Sponsors For Academic Talent (S.A.T.) Program, with scholarships presented annually at the S.A.T. Banquet. Additional recipients are chosen by their respective school’s staff.
Jones-Onslow is proud to support these outstanding students and celebrates the achievements of all young people in our local schools and communities. Congratulations to all scholarship recipients!

Annually, Jones-Onslow provides an opportunity for veterans with disabilities to challenge themselves, overcome barriers and learn that “what’s within them is stronger that what’s in the way.”
JOEMC, in conjunction with one of its financial partners, looks for a disabled veteran from its service area to nominate for the No Barriers Warrior Expedition Program. The program, sponsored by Co-Bank, provides expeditions that mentally and physically challenge veterans on outdoor expeditions through mountaineering, rafting and rock climbing. Co-Bank covers the full cost for participants including meals, gear and travel expenses. Veterans must have VA disability ratings to qualify.
JOEMC seeks a disabled veteran to nominate for one of four, five-day No Barriers expeditions. These expeditions offer veterans an opportunity to challenge limitations (both real and perceived) and to create a network of support that can last a lifetime. For consideration, individual’s nominating a veteran, even if self-nominated, should submit a letter summarizing the veteran’s military background, their VA disability rating, length of military service and why they think attending a No Barriers expedition would be of benefit. Letters may be emailed to Krystal Phillips at kphillips@joemc.com or mailed to Jones-Onslow EMC, attn: Krystal Phillips, 259 Western Blvd., Jacksonville, NC 28546.
Once we receive your request we will be in contact to give you further instructions on the application process. The nomination deadline is April 1.
