Summer is here, and it’s time for outdoor adventures! Whether going to the beach, having a picnic, or camping, keeping electrical safety in mind is essential. As members of Jones-Onslow EMC, we want you to enjoy your summer while staying safe.
At the Beach and Pool:
- Keep electrical devices away from water and sand.
- Use battery-powered or waterproof devices whenever possible.
- Make sure beach umbrellas and canopies stay away from power lines.
Picnics and Outdoor Gatherings:
- Use outdoor-rated extension cords for electrical devices.
- Keep cords away from where people walk to prevent accidents.
- Don’t overload outlets and extension cords.
- Check cords for any damage before using them
Camping and RVing:
- Only use electrical hookups made for camping or RVs.
- Regularly check cords, plugs, and connectors for any problems.
- Don’t overload the electrical system in your RV or campsite.
- Use ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) near water sources.
