JOEMC is closely monitoring the approach of Hurricane Idalia and preparing for potential impacts as it treks northward to North Carolina as a predicted tropical storm.
While the intensity and track of Idalia remain uncertain, forecasts show the potential for gusty winds, heavy rain, and isolated tornadoes in eastern North Carolina, especially in areas where tropical storm watches have been issued. These weather conditions can result in flash floods and downed trees and limbs, bringing safety concerns and potential power outages.
JOEMC employees train and prepare year-round for the impact of severe weather. Whenever a tropical system is forecasted to impact our community, the JOEMC team moves from preparation to action. This storm is no different; our trucks are fueled, materials are stocked, equipment is tested, and line crews are prepped, in place, ready to respond.
Should power outages occur, we will begin assessing damage and restoring service as long as it is safe for our employees to be in the field. If additional assistance is needed to restore power, we rely on a widespread network of peer cooperatives throughout the state as well as nationwide for support.
Just like we are prepped and ready, we urge you to do the same. Now is the time to make a plan, assemble an emergency kit, and follow the instructions of local officials.
